American Holocaust

Broken shards of darkened gloom
Lives that were, born to doom
First Native thoughts of fleeting worlds
Break forth beneath clouded pearls

Manifest destiny
The greed of man truthfully
Death in morning's biting frost
An American holocaust

Imprisoned Images

I see that face, and it see's me
We watch each other carefully
I see his left and he my right
Meticulous inspection, fluorescent light

Miming moves it seems
Clutching to my every scheme
Matching me so perfectly
Not missing a single opportunity

Scratching my right, he his left
Each movement of his so cleverly deft
And if I try to pull the rug
He matches me, oh so smug

I wonder, if he had a reality
What would be his thoughts of me
And with my in depth study
I think of him with only pity

Now it's time to end this study
My thoughts on him, reflections foggy
With renewed focus to the day
I laid down my brush, quietly walked away

The Black and The White

One arrives
One moves on
A new set of eyes
Another one's dawn
One's new life
Another's new world
One faces strife
The other unfurled
We come to life
We pass it by
Feeling time is rife
Yet the wink of an eye
When one visits
One's deeds will mount
When one succumbs
The love will count

A Day In Their Life

Brown squirrel chirps a warning clear
A selfless deed for all to hear

Caressing breeze of icy air
Whispers of it's mountain lair

Alpine bows cupped with snow
Like open palms that hands would show

Steady drips of dying flakes
Echo through the forest breaks

Woodpecker cries with loneliness
Wanton needs from winters stress

Each spirit on it's own
To fight their best and call this home

The Personality of Thought

The stillness of a deafening calm
Crucified thoughts of what has been
Velvet thoughts of what’s to be
Misplaced silence of serenity

Too many thoughts
Too many feelings
Thunder claps strolling through jagged skies
Rolling with random destiny

Darkness of a well lit gloom
Voices reaching from a veiled loft
Preaching what should have been
Cultivating what will be

Compulsive thoughts of where to go
Impulsive thoughts of what to do
Invasive thoughts of fields sown
Convulsive thoughts subtly moan

Frantic patience seeks a soul
Sedated sense of where to be
Quiet spirits of serenity
Soothing, coaching, guiding
Crooked talons grasp golden thrones
The piercing gaze of a focused life

A Pearl

Living life is a life lived. - Ron Dowd

Full Circle

Sol baked slope
Grey green sage
Deserted scenes
Though life adorned
Refractions shimmer
Warmed over earthly rage
Engulfing golden aura mourns

Dark drab needles
Alpine firs
Watching, whispering, wondering
Spirit world sentinels

Distant thunder grimly slaps
Dark clouds seek to reign
A drop, a drop, a splash
Sustenance again

Pearls

There ain’t a horse can’t be rode, and there ain’t a cowboy can’t be throwed.

The Phoenix Heart

Death today, of a certain life
Not one of being , but one of strife
Though transiently stilled
Trust can’t be killed
Embers of hope, givers of life
Givers of light, remain behind

Appearing deceased, now restored
Seemingly expired, yet now explored
What once seemed dark, is now a star
Lighting the way to who we are.
Never quit, deny despair
For all you are is your hearts heir.

Fade

An adventure I believe
Though it’s now just a thought
This journey we call life
Leaves so many miles of tracks

Tracks of deer
Tracks of tears
Tracks in snow
Tracks unknown

They weather away from rains of years
Slowly each sign disappears
Each step is lost through the mists of time
Each fades away on journeys aligned

The oldest wane first
Dissolving slowly away
Each goes next until their fade is complete
But before they go, we can say
Who they were before they fade

They were here
They existed
They lived and breathed
These are the memories we save
And once we’ve laid our very last track
Those memories are all they have

And as we pass from this world
We leave our tracks for those behind
As time proceeds and weathers all
These tracks too, shall begin to fade

Different Paths

Gleaming crystal sparks of light
Sun reflects heavenly sights
Packed down trail in winters realm
A path to home
A path to breathe
A path of hidden leaves

Beginning somewhere
Perhaps ending nowhere
Think of where it may go
Imagine, think, and don’t say no

Maybe a meadow
Maybe, who knows
Possibly a town
Possibly, unknown

Gleaming crystal sparks of light
Show the way to life’s insight
Each has their own
Each follows the unknown
And when the end is found
Look back , turn around

See where you are
Realize you’ve come far
Knowing, with no doubt
It’s who you are
It was your route

The Hawk

On wafting currents, he glides on high
Seeing below the tethered lands
Sailing cross the azure canvas
As if by an artists’ strokes, he scans

Drifting high with whispering air
His legs held up, withdrawn from there.
Eyes that lock, converge below
With a cry, a dive, a blinding show
Yesterday’s naught, tomorrow’s surreal
The reality of now to him is revealed

Before embarking on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. - Confucius

A Different Perspective

As I walked with soulful rain
A lonesome ant my way came
I knelt for a better view
He paused, looked up, as if he knew
The rain drop took perfect aim
A calculated, targeted frame
And as it struck Monsieur Ant
He looked about... no safety grant
He paused once more to contemplate
Why he’d been lifted from his flooded state
He merely shrugged as I laid him on his way
Never noticing this beautiful...
